The name Mejlhede and Jensen:
From my mother we have our name Mejlhede named after a small moor in
Northern Jutland, and here 4 families lived 200 years ago (click
a little name history). From my father we have the family name Jensen,
because his grand grand father was called Jens, and Jens's son Anton with
the last name Jensen (meaning son of Jens) was then by a
new name law demanding (uniform) family names forced to name his son (Jens)
Jensen
and not Jens Antonsen. This grand grand father is named after his grand
father Jens, who is named after his grand father Jens from just before
year 1700. And further back we do not know the family history.
There are many in my family with the name Mejlhede, and some have emigrated
to USA, also back in the 19' century. There is also another big family
in Denmark with the name Mejlhede. There are many with the family name
Jensen, as this is the most common family name in Denmark. (sen
= son in Jutland language).
