Trommelvalsen (Roller Waltz) - dance of 3 couples

bar 1 starting position Starting position: 1' couple turns and faces 2' couple. All run forward, start on left foot.
bar 1 1' couple duck through the gateway 2' couple (= centre couple) lifts their arms and form a gateway. 1' couple ducks and runs through the gateway.
bar 2 3' couple duck through the gateway Now 1' couple is the centre couple and forms a gateway for the 3' couple to duck and run through.
Meanwhile the 2' couple turns at the fore end: the gent turns below his and her lifted arms (so this time the gent is the one to get his hair messed).
bar 3-4
bar 5-8
bar 1-8
turn at the rear end In this way this part of the dance continues: it is always the couple that happens to be in the centre that forms the gateway and their opposing couple that ducks and runs through from one end, while the last couple turns at the other end.
All couples get through this part twice. When you know the dance it is easy to hear on the music where you should be at what time.
bar 8 in
repetition
just before tyrolese waltz At the end of this running part the 1' couple is coming back to the fore end for the second time and this time they do not turn.
(If you the first several times you dance it have some confusing about how far you are at this time, e.g. 1' couple might be at the rear end, then just forget about formalities and go on dancing as long as you are happy, folk dancing is for the enjoyment of everybody).
bar 10-13 tyrolean steps Tyrolean steps in couples after one another in the line of dancing in the ballroom.
Gents start with their left foot and ladies with their right foot and dance 3 steps forward in waltz while maybe turning slightly away from one another; then starting with the other foot another 3 steps turning slightly towards one another. Repeat for another 2 bars.
bar 14-17 waltz Waltz in couples.
Tyrolese waltz is repeated with the repetition of the music.

The dance is repeated as long as pleased.
