Our sailor has been to South America and was inspired to use tango in a traditional Danish type folk dance.

We here dance European (Spanish, English) tango (with basic steps: slow slow quick quick over 1½ bars).

We dance for the pleasure so you are free to select a relaxed informal hold etc.



Dance description


Start: big circle of couples (all the dancers of the ballroom)


Short description:


After an introduction with a big circle, the dance consists of 2 parts: chain to a new partner and couple dance:


intr     big circle clockwise, tango walk steps

1        short chain to a new partner, tango walk steps

2        couple dance tango: either C or D:

C       promenade with right turn

D       rock steps (rock turn)



Description in detail:

1-8                Big circle, holding hands, clockwise, walking steps or tango walk steps.

9-11              Chain with 2 tango walk steps to a new partner (past partner and next, to next).

12-14            Couple dance: 2 basic tango steps.

15-17            Couple dance tango: either: C (promenade with right turn) or D (rock step).

18-20            Couple dance: 2 basic tango steps.


C       promenade with right turn (= natural turn, spot turn), Lady (L) follows Gent (G):

15-16            Promenade as described in dance 9 Tango reverse bar 15-16.

17                 G: right foot (rf) forward quick, left foot (lf) forward in front of L with ½ (or more) right turn quick, rf forward in between L feet with right turn slow. Then ready to 2 basic tango steps (with possible further correction of the turn) before chain.


D       rock step, close hold, L follows G:

15-17            G: walk forward lf slow, with ¼ right turn walk forward rf in between L feet slow, rock back on left foot quick, rock forward on right foot quick, rock back on lf slow = start of back corté with ¼ left turn; then we have rf back to the side quick, lf to the side quick, rf close to lf slow. Then ready to 2 basic tango steps before chain.

The melody in the introductory circle (bar 1-8) is from a known European tango to give the bolero rhythm style (to distinguish from argentine tango). In the rest of the melody (9-20) there is exactly one note for each step to ease the learning of tango.
